Can you really remove something from Google Search?
Yes, but it is worth being precise about what “remove” means. There are two different jobs. How do I permanently delete something from Google?
Permanence comes from the source, not from Google. Google can only change its own index — if the file stays live on a website, it remains reachable by direct link, by other search engines and by anyone who saved it. Is it legal to have content removed?
Yes, when it is done through official channels — platform policy processes, copyright law and data-protection rights are all lawful mechanisms that exist precisely for this. What is not legitimate is hacking, impersonating the content owner, or filing knowingly false claims, and we do none of those.
What is the right to be forgotten and do I qualify?
It is a data-protection right in the UK and EU allowing you to ask a search engine to delist results about you from searches for your name. It is not automatic — the search engine weighs your privacy against public interest, considering whether you hold a public role, how old and how sensitive the material is, and where it was published. Do I need a lawyer?
For most removals, no. Platform and data-protection routes do not require one, and using a solicitor for a straightforward delisting is an expensive way to fill in a free form.
